Dr. Marissa Vasquez
Welcome! Bienvenidos! I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in Monterey County, California. I offer personalized, culturally sensitive services to adults in both English and Spanish. I provide individual therapy sessions and immigration evaluations from my office in Pacific Grove, as well as virtually.
My areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, stress, and grief. I am committed to creating a supportive, empowering, and nonjudgmental environment that encourages meaningful change and success. I have experience working with individuals who are new to therapy, feeling “stuck,” or seeking self-growth, self-love, and a purposeful life.
My clinical approach
I believe it is essential to recognize how a person’s upbringing and life experiences shape their self-view and relationships with others. Each individual’s unique experiences inform their perspective, and it is important to approach clinical work with a deep respect for this diversity, while remaining grounded in humility and compassion. This mindset is a fundamental part of my practice as a clinical psychologist.
Cultural and intersecting identities are central to each person's individuality and contribute significantly to their overall experience. By exploring these intersecting identities, individuals can gain a richer understanding of themselves, others, and their environment. I am dedicated to understanding my clients' identities, experiences, and perspectives, while also reflecting on how these elements intersect with my own. My aim is to foster a therapeutic space that promotes growth and healing.
I help my clients reconnect with their sense of purpose by teaching them the skills to set boundaries and build supportive, nurturing relationships that foster their personal growth.
Clinical Background and Training
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2013. I then earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University in 2020. As part of my clinical training experiences, I completed an APA-accredited internship within the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas from 2019-2020. My training experiences have included settings in community mental health clinics and correctional facilities.
